Chris knows his orchids and has a large healthy collection in his NYC apartment. I was having problems with my own indoor kitchen window orchids getting brown spots and brown sheaths on their pseudobulbs because I was misting leaves at night. I sent him photos--because I am in Florida, too far away for a visit! He responded right away with a diagnosis and treatment. Just popped open - #dendrobiumcuthbertsonii from @goldcountryorchids - Alan was right, and validated my suspicions that indeed, these are not cold growers, but rather need distilled/rain/low in dissolved salts water to survive. Dendrobium farmeri is on its second bloom! I was not expecting it to bloom twice about a month apart! What a productive, compact fragrant species! It's a winner for home indoor growers! 🌿Dendrobium farmeri🌿, an easy to grow Dendrobium with a wide range across tropical lowland and semi highland Southeast Asia. This has been a sequential spike bloomer - the canes mature at different times, so this one is technically my second bloom of the year. 🌿Plant Doctor @botanictonic here! 🌿Did you know that green flowers are an evolutionary relic? It's currently the scientific consensus that flowers evolved from ancient leaves with reproductive parts on them - much like a fern leaf loaded up with spores and sporangia! Over time, those reproductive structures on those leaves consolidated into what we know as a flower. If you pay attention, even colorful flowers start off as green, an evolutionary relic. Clowesia Rebecca Northen is going to be entered into the Philly Flower Show! Will any of you be in Philadelphia to see the show and buy plants?! Have you ever tried a #tamarind ? I'm sure that Instagram has butchered my video, but I'm done trying lol...
